RE: New GVWR for 2009 Roo 233?

I am pretty sure that a 8' wide 2008 Shamrock 233 that we looked at back in March had a similar GVWR of 4808 lbs on it's sticker Our 8' wide 2009 Shamrock 233 has a GVWR of 4808 on it's sticker. I just checked the axle spec plates and they each show a capacity of 1364 Kg which I believe is around 3007 lbs.

RE: New GVWR for 2009 Roo 233?

The GVWR for our 2009 Shamrock 233 is 4808. There is not that much difference between 2008 and 2009. Where did you find the 6409 number? On a trailer or on the web-site? Call or go to a dealer and check what actual trailers have.

RE: ’08 ROO, Another Front Bunkend Water Leak

Just got back from a camping trip with our 2009 Shamrock 233. On the way out, drove through heavy rain for about 1 hour. On the way home, drove through rain for about 1 hour with heavy rain for about 20 minutes. No leaks. Did notice some water in the bottom corners of the front door, but can not see any rain inside. It was not easy to look. On a 233, I needed to run a mirror in under the dinette seat past the water pump. Was not able to see any water signs.

RE: forest river shamrock

We have a 2009 Flagstaff Shamrock 233. It is the same as the 2009 Rockwood Roo 233. They are both made by Forest River. If you compare the brochures, you will find that they are almost identical. Some color differences and some of the options on the Roo are standard on the Shamrock.

RE: Finally! Roo is Ready to Roll!

Sounds like you made some great memories that everyone will remember for years! Good luck!

RE: New Storage Door Seals

Had this with ours new. I found the frame butt seam tends to be located at 12 o'clock and with a hose quickly found it was also the leak. Sealed each seam and have been dry since. Scott, Thanks for the tip. I will check it out and seal them up.

RE: New Storage Door Seals

I noticed a similar problem yesterday when we had a very heavy downpour. The two side storage doors on our Shamrock 233 had similar water show up. Not a lot, but just enough to be concerning. What kind of trailer do you have? Is your rear storage door vertical or slanted? Our rear storage door which is slanted was dry.

RE: ROO Wheel Well Liners

This is a problem area. Our Shamrock had a problem in this area when we picked it up. The liner over the rear tire on the passenger side of the trailer was not fastened to the framework. I could feel the liner flex when I pressed up on the liner. I called the dealer about it and they recommended Liquid Nails. That seems to be holding for the time being. The staple gun/construction adhesive/caulking seems like the right way to go to me.

RE: New Hybrid Owner

Congrats to all on their move up to hard sided trailers. We decided to move up when we had issues with our crank up on our pop-up not engaging at the top. Nothing worse than cranking the top up and having it come back down. Took it back to the dealer a number of times, but it didn't seem to stay fixed. We were camping with friends back in June. They were setting up their popup and encountered the "Won't stay up" issue. They are looking.

RE: Ordered a ROO 23SS

Per our Forest River Rep, 8 to 12 weeks is normal. Our Shamrock 233 took approximately 10 weeks.

RE: Finally! Roo is Ready to Roll!

cryptobrian, Here is a few things to look for when you pick up your 233: 1. Review the previous threads regarding Roo bunk end leaks. Our caulking was visibly neat everywhere and the seals around the bunks were of proper length. 2. Check the rivets in the canvas at each corner of the bunks. One of ours was broken. You should have 2 rivets per bunk. 3. Check the ends of the rubber gaskets around the bunks. We found 2 places where the steel stiffener protruded out and would probably have torn the tenting over time. 3. We found some nails protruding on the rear upper shelf. 4. Check the plastic wheel well liner is properly fastened above each wheel. Just feel above each tire. If there is no movement, you are OK. If there is any movement, get it sealed up. 5. When we camped in our 233 with 5 adults without any wheel chocks, you could feel people walking around. When we put the wheel chocks on, they reduced the movement quite a bit. With kids running around, you should plan on using wheel chocks. 6. We set up one night without solar blankets and received blessing from the birds. Get some solar blankets of some sort (and a step ladder to use to put them on) Good luck and hope that you and the kids have a great time.

RE: Finally! Roo is Ready to Roll!

Good luck with the 233! We love ours. So far, we have spent 8 nights in it and all is well so far.

RE: Towing w/ SUV

I tow with an F-150 and would not consider towing without Weight Distribution and sway control. Ignore your manual and tow safe. Happy camping with your new trailer.

RE: New Flagstaff Shamrock Owner, need help folding in beds

Here are a couple of thoughts: 1. On our Shamrock 233, the rear bunk presented the opportunity to fold up the mattress and stand it up against the Bathroom wall. The bunk is easier to close without the weight of the mattress. The tenting is neatly stowed between the bunk and the mattress. 2. Our side and front bunks do not have a wall to lean the mattresses against. We have tried various methods with mixed success. When we snap our side bunk down, the snaps tend to pop loose during the trip. The front bunk so far has stayed in place. Either way, closing the bunks with the mattresses on them is harder than without. Our Travelstar came with straps that were used to hold one of the mattresses in a standing position against the front bunk. The straps were crossed (ie. top left to bottom right, top right to bottom left). I am thinking about putting hooks on the bottom corners of each bunk. The top cable fasteners would work. We then could close the bunk by taking the mattress off the bunk, closing the bunk up, standing the mattress up and attaching the straps. I would like to get to the point where closing the bunks could be a one person operation.

RE: Picked up new trailer today, heading out tomorrow!

The flat tongue jack attachment is a BAL Foot pad that the dealer had in stock.

RE: Picked up new trailer today, heading out tomorrow!

We survived the shakedown cruise! We dry camped for 3 nights with 5 adults, had hard rain one night, had to pack up in the rain, got lot's of sand in the trailer, and had no major problems. The trailer towed very nice. Before we left, I discussed the wheel well problem with the dealer and they recommended using Liquid Nails until we can take the trailer in. I bought some fresh Liquid Nails on the way and brought my caulk gun on the trip. I caulked the seam up by removing the drawers and applying the caulk. I pressed the liner up against the trailer frame using a couple pieces of firewood. The seam held tight during the 130 mile return trip. Mod number 1 was to take the jack wheel off and replace it with a pad. Who would try to move one of these trailers by hand? We did encounter a number of very minor problems with the trailer, including a finicky zipper, a zipper that will not open all the way, and some mattress stitching that is unraveling. I already have a long list of to-do's, but time is tight. We are heading out next week for five nights of dry camping.

Picked up new trailer today, heading out tomorrow!

We picked up a new 2009 Shamrock 233 today. We ordered it many months ago and are very glad the waiting is over! All systems are go. We spent about 3 1/2 hours today with the dealer doing the walk thru and getting a couple of minor problems corrected. Many thanks to all Forest River posters here. The marker lights are caulked up really nice. The gaskets on all three bunks fit well. It is getting a rain test tonight! Tomorrow we are heading out for a 3 night shakedown cruise. Only one problem found since we left the dealer. DS leaned on an open drawer and popped it off the guide. When I went to fix it, I noticed that I could see daylight behind the drawer. Seems the caulking around the plastic liner in one of the wheel wells is missing. Will have to talk to service tomorrow before heading out.

RE: Towing mirrors

If price is no object, you could get your mirrors replaced with Ford telescoping towing mirrors. These are available for F-150s which your Expedition is based on. They are a bolt on replacement for the regular ones. A pair of them will run around $500. They are nice since there are no straps and since they are a solid mount, there is no movement of the reflected image. You just grab ahold of them and slide them out for towing and push them in for non-towing. They are similar to the F-250 mirrors. I have seen them on F-150's on dealer lots. Drive through a couple of dealers lots. You may see a couple of them on new F-150s. This is not just a Ford thing. I have seen similar mirrors on GMs, Chevys, Dodges, and Toyotas.

RE: Minivan towing a Hybrid, the numbers seem to work?

Don't trust any numbers that you see unless you are looking at a scale. Either way, I would not tow our Travelstar 19CK (2841 GVW) with our Windstar. No way, no how. We towed the trailer with a Explorer and ended replacing just about the whole drivetrain and the brakes every year. I cringe when I see trailers going down the road taking the tow vehicle for a ride. Lots of people recommend a 20% safety margin on the weights. Listen to them, I didn't and wished that I had.
